Werdiger and Brettkelly Lead the Charge
The Bulldogs' success at the Fordham Invitational was spearheaded by the impressive performances of Julia Werdiger '28 and Mirabelle Brettkelly '25. Werdiger breezed through her quarterfinal match against Mia Palladino of Stony Brook, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Brettkelly also dominated her opponent, Camila Barrera Aguirre of Providence, with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 victory.The Bulldogs' singles dominance continued on the second day of the tournament, as Werdiger, Brettkelly, and Rebecca Lynn '26 all advanced to the finals of their respective draws. Werdiger defeated Nevena Kolarevic of Fordham 6-4, 4-6, 10-5, while Brettkelly secured a 6-3, 7-6(7-3) win over Army's Jenna Sabile. Lynn also impressed, blowing past Army's Julia Kelly 6-4, 6-3 to reach the finals.
Bulldogs Claim Two Singles Titles
The Bulldogs' strong performance culminated on the final day of the Fordham Invitational, as they claimed two singles championships. Lynn started the day off on a high note, defeating Charlotta Buss of St. John's 6-3, 7-5 to claim the title in her draw. Brettkelly followed suit, dominating Paola Ueno Dalmonico of Fairleigh Dickinson 6-3, 6-1 to secure the second singles title for the Bulldogs.
Doubles Duo Reaches Finals
In the doubles competition, the Bulldogs' duo of Brettkelly and Werdiger made it all the way to the finals, defeating their opponents from Fordham 7-6(7-4) in the semifinals. However, they ultimately fell short in the finals, losing to their Army counterparts 6-4.
Preparing for the Next Challenge
The Fordham Invitational served as an excellent preparation for the Bulldogs as they look ahead to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Regionals next week. Brettkelly expressed her team's excitement, stating, "This weekend was a great prep weekend as we head into regionals next week. Competing in a singles draw format but staying united in cheering as a team and supporting each other across the courts was a great prelude for how we hope to approach next week."With their impressive performances at the Fordham Invitational, the Bulldogs have set the stage for a strong showing at the upcoming regional tournament.
