The dynamic duo of Acelyn Migliori and TaiLynn Minchey from Emery High School proved to be unstoppable in the first doubles tournament. Their journey to the championship was nothing short of impressive. In their opening match against Richfield, the Lady Spartans secured a decisive victory, winning in two sets (6-4, 7-5). This set the stage for their semifinal clash against North Sanpete, which went the distance in three sets. However, the Emery pair refused to be deterred, ultimately emerging victorious in the final set with a score of 6-4.The championship match pitted Migliori and Minchey against the formidable team from Juab. Showcasing their exceptional skills and unwavering determination, the Emery duo made quick work of their opponents, winning in two sets (6-0, 6-4) and earning the coveted first-place medals.Head Coach Travis Olsen of the Spartans praised the duo's performance, saying, "Acelyn and TaiLynn are true fighters who accept difficult challenges and rise above them. They have the perfect balance of finesse and power, and they win with grace and lose with dignity. Their character is the most impressive part of their complete game."

Emery High School's success extended beyond the first doubles tournament, as another Emery team, Izzi Turner and Lily Sorensen, also made their mark in the second doubles event. The duo claimed a well-deserved third-place finish, contributing valuable team points for their school.Turner and Sorensen's journey began with a convincing win against Carbon's Gianna Valdez and Kiley Sasser in the first round (6-0, 6-4), propelling them into the second round. Although they ultimately fell to Juab, the Emery pair refused to be deterred and went on to win their next two matches, securing the third-place medals.

Carbon Dinos Showcase Resilience

While Emery dominated the doubles events, the Carbon Dinos also made their presence felt. Gianna Valdez and Kiley Sasser, the Carbon duo, engaged in a competitive battle for fifth place against Manti. The match went the distance, with three sets, and Carbon emerged victorious in the final set with a score of 7-6 (7-3).Additionally, Ireland Keil, representing the Lady Dinos in first singles, earned a fifth-place finish. Despite a tough draw against Richfield in her opening match, where she fell in two sets (6-3, 7-5), Keil refused to give up. She bounced back, winning her next match against Emery and advancing to the fifth-place match. In a hard-fought three-set battle, Keil ultimately secured the victory in the third set with a score of 6-4.

Final Team Standings

The Region 12 Championships saw Juab claim the top spot with 54 points, followed by North Sanpete (44), Richfield (35), Delta (15), Emery (12), Manti (10), Carbon (10), and Canyon View (4).As the Spartan and Dino tennis squads look ahead, they will now turn their attention to the state tournament, which will be held at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City from October 3rd to October 5th. The athletes are eager to showcase their skills on the state stage and continue their impressive performances.
